10 Examples Of Healthy Self-Talk
How confident people talk to themselves.
The inner monologue that only exists in your mind is more powerful than you might think.
Your “self talk” is quite literally the story that you tell yourself about yourself. It’s the way that your identity is shaped, because it describes your abilities, your skills, your true intentions — and yes, also your insecurities, your doubts, fears, and hesitations.
For most, self-talk is passive. In other words, thoughts and ideas pop into their minds and they accept them as reality, without ever questioning their validity.
Also true for most, the random thoughts that arise are not always positive or flattering.
They can sound a lot like this:
“I’m not good enough.”
“I’m so dumb.”
“I can’t do this.”
“I’ll never find love.”
“I don’t deserve success or happiness.”
“I have unhealthy patterns and that’s just who I am.”
Each time we allow one of these thoughts to sit in our mind, unchallenged, it erodes a small hole in our confidence. We actually start to believe the words we’re telling ourselves, and our actions begin to follow suit.
