5 Old Dating Rules That Belong In The Past

Most people feel as though dating has gotten more complicated over time, and in some ways, they’re definitely right. There are a lot more external influences and temptations than ever before thanks to social media, and there is virtually no separation or “down time” when it comes to communication because everyone is immediately accessible via text or DM.

The dating world is, no doubt, unrecognizable from even a few years ago — yet some still hold tight to the passively accepted ‘rules’ or ‘norms’ that belonged in yesteryear.

They served our parents and grandparents well in the context of the world they were living in, but that world has changed, and therefore so must our actions to match it.

What, then, are some of the old “rules” that we should leave in the past where they belonged?

1: Taking a certain amount of time to respond.

I still get this question often from private clients: “How long should I wait to reply to this text?!”

The whole “wait three days before calling back” rule was established long before texting and was intended to make it seem like you’ve got a busy life, you’re not too anxious…
