A quick thought on “old school” values
Outdated…or elevated?
Sometimes I am compelled to send my email subscribers a quick note outside of our regularly scheduled programming with The Secret Weapon newsletter…and even more rarely, I’ll cross-post those ideas into a short spitfire article here on Medium. A departure from the regular 6–15 minute reads I normally produce.
This is one of those times.
I ponder often, the “old fashioned” values that once held real weight in our society.
Honor. Respect. Integrity.
They seem to have faded into the distance, only present in echoes of those we once looked up to, old movies, or “the classics.”
But they’re not relics of the past…they’re reminders of who we were before the world started cutting corners.
Before everyone started looking for shortcuts.
Before we all started putting instant gratification over building something that lasts.
Because fewer people live by these values today…we assume they’re outdated.
But in truth, they’ve simply become harder to find…and more powerful because of it.
In a time of instant gratification and self-promotion, showing restraint is radical.
