Signs That Your Dating Standards Are TOO High

Make sure your standards are high…but realistic.

I’m the guy who is always encouraging everyone to raise their standards when it comes to dating and relationships. These conversations are particularly direct with my private clients. I am also, however, also the guy who’s making sure that standards aren’t set to “fairy tale” levels that are excluding some potential partners who may be kind, caring, and genuine people that just…have some quirks (like we all do).

I’ve been guiding one particular client through the process of envisioning his future with someone he’s currently dating (or not), and we’ve had to have the honest “but, what’s the alternative?” talk more than a few times.

What is, then, the difference between maintaining high standards in order to get what you deserve, and setting unrealistic standards that are unable to be met by most mere mortals?

Let’s look at some signs that you might, effectively, be asking for too much from people.

1: You want everyone to have a “clean slate.”

The older we get, the more prominent this issue becomes.
