Thank you so much for this thoughtful response — I imagine it’s difficult when promises are made on one’s behalf in the context of a lifelong relationship that they are then being expected to uphold. I think that vows, approached similarly to how this article was written, serve as boundaries and parameters for what both partners are pledging to bring (or not bring) to the relationship. Certainly not something to be considered lightly.
