“Forever” is not to be taken lightly.
The decision to get married is one I have always believed to be a permanent one. Despite my ultra-liberal and progressive views on the world in general, I maintain my traditional dedication to the idea of “a lifelong marriage.” Good news for my new wife and kids.
Because of this, then, it is possibly the biggest decision I can ever consider making — you know, with its permanence, and all.
Given the weight of the decision, what do I believe to be the qualities to look for in the person whom we choose to build a life with?
1: Someone who values you as you are today.
The old saying “you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone” is bullshit when it comes to relationships. You want to be with someone who knows exactly what they have while they have you. Not someone who needs to be on the cusp of losing you in order to finally realize it.
And the truth is, you deserve this level of adoration and respect. You deserve someone who will wake up beside you every single morning and be truly grateful for who you are at your core.
