“What’s this made of, husband material?”

What actions and qualities signal that a man is ready for, capable of, and dare I say — “worthy of” entering into a permanent and lifelong commitment with?

Before you get all disgruntled about the word “worthy” and argue that everyone is worthy of love, I frequently and adamantly make that point in my writing and speaking. There is no question that people are deserving of love as a default setting, simply by being human.

Let me be clear, though — not everyone is going to put in the time, effort, work, and consistency that it takes to maintain a happy and healthy marriage.

There are over 8 billion people in the world, and choosing to enter into a monogamous and lifelong marriage means that you are selecting one person to be your partner for the rest of your life.

That is, one could argue, the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a person. And, it’s an honor that you have the power to choose. You decide who you give yourself over to, and your partner decides to give themselves over to you, in return.

Not exactly a casual decision to make.
